As Tommy Fleetwood finally takes himself off the list of winless but incredibly accomplished PGA stars, let’s take a look at what notable names remain.
These players dreamt of their maiden win, while dominating on the tour. Maintaining a large fan-base in the process, despite no first place finishes. Some have retired, but others are still in pursuit of a PGA Tour Trophy.
Colin Montgomerie
Although the Scot has found success on the PGA Tour Champions with 7 wins, Colin Montgomerie’s career on the PGA Tour was not as fruitful. He played in 142 events, making the cut in 102 of them and ended his career with 6 runner ups and 24 top 10 finishes.
John Mallinger
With 187 winless rounds, John Mallinger took home two second place finishes and nearly $7 million dollars. Off the course, the American struck it rich when the clothing company he co-founded was purchased by Callaway Golf in 2017. The text that TravisMathew sold for a hefty $125.5 million came through in the middle of a competitive round, and Mallinger essentially retired on the spot, withdrawing mid-round. He went on to play a few more times, but found coaching his own boys and starting the John Mallinger Foundation to be more fulfilling.
Alex Noren
Swedish professional Alex Noren made headlines recently, winning the Betfred British Masters after a seven year drought. He took home the title with a one stroke lead, moving ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick for the win. Hopefully, the momentum will continue for the golfer and a PGA Tour win will be next on his list of achievements.
Cameron Tringale
The California native played 338 events on the PGA Tour with no wins to his name. That might have changed for the golf professional, but in 2022 Cameron Tringale made the switch over to LIV Golf where he competes on team HyFlyers GC with Andy Ogletree and Phil Mickelson as captain.
Patrick Rodgers
Patrick Rodgers has found himself in both 2nd and 3rd place 4 times each throughout his career. With 14 top 5 finishes and 28 top tens, he has had plenty of close calls throughout the years. Thanks to his many triumphs, he has pocketed a solid $18 million on the tour.
Byeong Hun An
Despite winning internationally, Byeong Hun An has yet to take home his first PGA Tour title. The South Korea Native has 5 runner up finishes to his name and 29 times has found himself in the top 10.
Impressively, in August of 2009, Byeong Hun An became the youngest-ever winner of the U.S. Amateur at 17 years old.
Briny Baird
Well known for sporting a wild P.F. Chang’s hat on the Tour, Briny Baird played for 379 events throughout his career and had six runner-up finishes. Turning pro in 1995, his career all but ended back in 2014, when he was sidelined by ongoing injuries.
However, Baird remains optimistic about his career, positively telling CNN, “I would rather be the guy who has won the most money without a victory than the guy who has won the least money! A stat is only as bad as you want it to be.”
