The 2026 PGA Championship is here, and while the weather isn’t expected to be a major factor, it seems as if no one told Bryson DeChambeau.
The LIV Golf superstar, who has made more headlines off the (professional) course than on lately, was running up the impressions once again before the first round of the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club just outside of Philadelphia.
Bryson DeChambeau’s Puffy Jacket Steals Show Early at PGA Championship
DeChambeau showed up to the course wearing a massive puffy jacket, one typically reserved for the sidelines of an Eagles game in January, and not the golf course in mid-May.
Despite early-morning temperatures in the Philly area for the morning of Round 1 hovering in the high 50s, approaching 60, that apparently warranted the huge outer layer for the California native who grew up in Texas.
The good news for DeChambeau? Assuming he’s able to make the cut and reach the weekend at Aronimink, temperatures are expected to climb into the 80s, which is perhaps sweater weather for the big golfer.
Internet Has Fun With Bryson DeChambeau’s PGA Championship Jacket
As you might expect, the internet had its share of fun with DeChambeau’s peculiar wardrobe decision.
“Bryson is dressed like he’s taking the dog at 6 a.m. in a mid-February snowstorm,” one person posted on X.
Another added: “QB2 on his way to check the tablet with QB1.”
Others were more to the point.
“Pushing 60 degrees. Bryson is so soft,” said one reply, and another just stated, “He is the weirdest man.”
Not everyone was a critic, though. Some — mostly from America’s warmer climates — came to DeChambeau’s defense.
“As a Florida Man, 53 is (expletive) cold. I’d be doing the same,” said one reply, and another noted “As much as I hate Bryson, buddy is from Texas, 53 is cold lol.”
Can Bryson DeChambeau Get Back in Mix at PGA Championship?
It’s hard to say the majors have been a bumpy ride for DeChambeau, who has five top-five finishes, including a win, in his last nine majors. However, he missed the cut at the Masters earlier this year, and he also missed the cut at the U.S. Open last summer. That’s two missed cuts in his last three major starts.
He has an impressive PGA Championship resume, though, finishing no worse than tied for fourth over the last three years, with a pair of second-place finishes in 2024 and 2025, respectively. However, with his LIV future uncertain, there are more question marks around DeChambeau than we’ve seen since he made the leap to LIV.
“DeChambeau has finished runner-up in the last two PGA Championships,” Keith Stewart wrote in his PGA Championship power rankings for GolfDigest.com. “Can he contend again come Sunday? Hi ability to ignore distractions and perform under extreme scrutiny will be tested this week in Philadelphia.
“Inside the ropes, DeChambeau’s usually steady short game and putter have been unreliable lately. With the drama surrounding the LIV star and injury uncertainty, we have more questions than answers when it comes to golf’s most entertaining player.”
Wait until the Philly fans get a load of the jacket.
