Rickie Fowler is fighting for survival in the FedExCup Playoffs standings, but the challenge is the star is running out of time. Heading into the final round of the BMW Championship, Fowler is projected to be eliminated from the playoffs.
The good news is that Fowler can change things with a strong final round on Sunday, August 23. After three rounds, Fowler sits at T35 on the BMW Championship leaderboard.
More importantly, Fowler is No. 32 in the projected FedExCup Playoffs standings. Only the top 30 golfers will advance to play in the Tour Championship as 20 golfers will be eliminated from the postseason.

“It’s pretty simple: just go play some good golf tomorrow,” Fowler told Golf Digest on August 23.
Heading Into the Final Round at the BMW Championship, Fowler Is Projected to be Eliminated From FedExCup Playoffs
One of the challenges is that Sungjae Im surged into the top 10 at the BMW Championship heading into the final round. Im is currently projected to jump 10 spots in the playoff standings with Fowler being one of the biggest losers in the development.
“It’s not necessarily one thing in particular,” Fowler said of his play. “Not off by much. It’s not like we’re playing that poorly; just not getting much out of it.
“I’ve had a little bit of everything this week from got off to a nice start the first day and came backwards and then had a decent finish yesterday, making eagle 17 and then went the wrong way today.”

Fowler has not played in the Tour Championship since 2023. Regardless of Fowler’s fate, is has been a strong 2026 campaign, but the golfer would like the added benefits that come with advancing to the Tour Championship.
“That’d be nice,” Fowler said referencing the Tour Championship benefits. “If not, then obviously maybe play a little bit in the fall to try and work on world ranking. But like I said, regardless, we’re going to be fine.
“Obviously ,we’ve put together some good finishes this year. It’s not a bad position to be in. So yeah, go put together a nice solid round of golf tomorrow and go to Atlanta. And if not, it’s start somewhat of the off season a week sooner.”
