Shane Lowry stepped away from golf preparation this week. He joined the Amgen team for a charity walk in Ireland. The event raises funds for Make-A-Wish Ireland, the official charity partner of the Amgen Irish Open.
“It’s great to be here with the Amgen team to help raise funds for Make-A-Wish Ireland, the official charity partner of the Amgen Irish Open,” Lowry said. “I’m very lucky to do what I do, to be able to give a kid the opportunity to come and spend time fulfilling a wish.”
Lowry has served as an Amgen golf ambassador since December 2023.
“The partnership between the Amgen Irish Open and Make-A-Wish is very important because it both helps raise awareness for the charity and gives them a platform on a global stage,” he said.
Make-A-Wish Ireland has served as the tournament’s official charity partner for four straight years. This year marks a fifth.
In 2024, Lowry surprised Cian Norris, a 10-year-old heart transplant recipient, with a private skills session. Norris had told Make-A-Wish his dream was to play golf with his hero.
He also shared a similar moment with 11-year-old Leukemia survivor Dáire Coyle a year later.
During this week, he also made a stop at Woodbrook Golf Club.
This week is the R&A Men’s and Women’s Home Internationals. It’s an amateur team event pitting Ireland against England, Scotland and Wales. It’s part of Woodbrook’s centenary year.
Lowry went to meet the Irish team.

Lowry currently sits 60th in the FedEx Cup standings with 670 points. That locks him into next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Lowry chose to skip the Wyndham Championship, the season’s final regular event. He has not played competitively since The Open at Royal Birkdale last month. That was his sixth start in seven weeks. A break made sense.
The decision carries risk. Lowry now needs to climb at least 10 spots in Memphis to reach the top 50 and advance to the BMW Championship. Missing that cut would hurt his push for 2027 Signature Event status.
Lowry is expected to fall outside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking this week, his first time outside it since early 2024.
Shane Lowry & Family Went Vacationing Together With Rory McIlroy & Family
Lowry made the most of his break before returning to competition. He and Rory McIlroy took their families to the Greek island of Paros following The Open, according to the Irish Star.
Lowry’s wife, Wendy, joined along with the couple’s children. McIlroy brought his wife, Erica Stoll. Caddie Harry Diamond and his wife, Claire, rounded out the group.
McIlroy made a side trip of his own, turning up at Ibiza’s Pacha nightclub for a night out during the same stretch.
Lowry kept the holiday going after returning home. He spent time in West Cork with former Ireland rugby star Peter O’Mahony.
Lowry’s next real test comes at TPC Southwind. He needs a big week to keep his playoff run alive.
