Atlanta Braves Acquire 2-Year MLB Player

Ahead of Thursday’s game, the Braves announced that they had acquired Maverick Handley off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.
The Braves wrote (via X): “The #Braves today claimed C Maverick Handley off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred RHP Hurston Waldrep to the 60-day injured list.”
Handley was picked in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
He has spent part of two seasons with the Orioles.
Social Media Reacts

Here’s what people were saying about the news:
Jesús Cano: “Nothing changes in terms of Waldrep’s progression. The move was described as procedural by the club, as the Braves needed a 40-man roster spot to add Maverick Handley.”
Matt Weyrich: “The Maverick Handley era is over. Baltimore’s 2019 sixth-round pick who has bounced on and off the roster the past two seasons was claimed by the Atlanta Braves, where he will reunite with former Orioles teammate and fellow catcher Chadwick Tromp.”
Andy Kostka: “Maverick Handley has been claimed off waivers by the Braves. A long-trusted depth catcher, for the moment, is out of Baltimore’s organization”
@candyce_ford36: “I hope Maverick Handley thrives outside of the Orioles organization”
@ZJBeatdown: “Wow. Subtle but the Maverick Handley in Baltimore era is over. Has been with the organization since 2019”
