Shortly before the Baltimore Orioles‘ Thursday afternoon clash against the Los Angeles Angels, the organization announced a change involving Jackson Holliday.
This time, Holliday will be batting fifth in the order, per the franchise (via X).

According to the franchise, Dylan Beavers (LF) will be leading off, followed by Pete Alonso (1B), Gunnar Henderson (DH), Christian Encarnacion-Strand (3B), Holliday (SS), Leody Taveras (RF), Jeremiah Jackson (2B), Colton Cowser (CF) and Yohel Pozo (C).
Right-hander Brandon Young will be starting on the mound.
As for Holliday, he will be playing at shortstop instead of second base, where he played on Wednesday.
Heading into the series finale at Camden Yards, the 22-year-old is slashing .244/.350/.375 with a career-high .725 OPS and five home runs through 62 games.
So far, he’s registered five doubles, one triple and 20 RBIs.
His 2026 campaign marks his third year playing Major League Baseball, each having been spent in Baltimore.
The organization selected him first overall in the first round of the 2022 MLB draft. His long-awaited debut arrived in April 2024.
Now, Holliday’s journey in the big leagues has been anything but seamless. He’s navigated a handful of slumps, and the Orioles are in a frustrating spot in the standings.
To be blunt, Holliday hasn’t entirely lived up to the expectations set for him when he was once a former No. 1 prospect for Baltimore.

In the Major Leagues as a whole, Baltimore is ranked toward the middle of the standings.
Their overall record of 56-58 places them second-to-last in the American League East. While it’s enough to fend off the struggling Toronto Blue Jays (54-61), they’re a great distance behind the Boston Red Sox (62-51), the New York Yankees (64-51) and the Tampa Bay Rays (68-46).
The Orioles managed to clinch a 3-1 victory over the Angels during their series opener on Tuesday, followed by a 5-2 victory on Wednesday.
They’ve already won the set, but they’re looking to make a clean sweep once their final clash approaches at 12:35 p.m. ET.
Once this stretch is over, Baltimore will travel to Globe Life Field in the Lone Star State to take on the Texas Rangers for three games.
The Rangers are currently second in the American League West at 57-58 overall, trailing the Houston Astros (59-57).
Texas won its latest series 2-1, with its final victory resulting in a 6-0 shutout over the San Francisco Giants.
The Baltimore-Texas series will commence on Friday, Aug. 7, at 8:15 p.m. ET.
This season has not been playing out in favor of the Orioles, but there is still time for the franchise to pull ahead and improve its overall record.
At this point, FanGraphs now lists Baltimore as having an 18.2% chance of clinching the wild card and a 18.4% chance of reaching the playoffs. Their chances of winning the World Series, however, stand at 0.5%.
