It feels like there is at least one more move left this offseason for the Baltimore Orioles. They have already made some significant moves this winter to upgrade their roster. The Orioles have added some key position players and some additions to the starting rotation.
If there is one more addition they need to make, it would be to bring in another starting pitcher. The options are dwindling, but two big names remain available. Framber Valdez of the Houston Astros and Ranger Suarez of the Philadelphia Phillies are options. Both left-handers would be an addition that would make this offseason a major success.
Baltimore has been linked to both pitchers, but one continues to be linked to the Orioles the most. Suarez seems like he would be a good fit, and Bleacher Report once again listed Baltimore as the landing spot for him.
Baltimore Orioles Predicted to Land Ranger Suarez in Free Agency
Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report played matchmaker for some of the top remaining free agents with spring training just a month away. He predicted Suarez to land with the Orioles. Kelly said it would be hard to fault Suarez for ending up with the New York Mets because of money, but if he doesn’t, then Baltimore is a better fit.
“It may not come down to that, though, because Suárez might wind up as a better fit with the Orioles, who still have interest in the lefty, per Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner,” wrote Kelly.
So far, Baltimore has added Shane Baz to the rotation in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. They also re-signed Zach Eflin to go along with Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish. They also made two huge upgrades by signing Pete Alonso and trading for outfielder Taylor Ward from the Los Angeles Angels. Adding Suarez would make them a problem for the rest of the American League East.
Baltimore Orioles Can Solidify Rotation By Signing Ranger Suarez
On top of the additions mentioned above, the Orioles have also added Ryan Helsley to be a key arm out of the bullpen.
“President of baseball operations Mike Elias has been very aggressive this offseason, signing both Pete Alonso and Ryan Helsley, while trading for Taylor Ward. Suárez’s addition would help to assure that Baltimore bounces back from a disastrous 2025 season that saw them finish in last place in the AL East with just 75 wins,” Kelly wrote.
In terms of money for Suarez, he would be looking for a big deal. He earned it after his last couple of seasons in Philadelphia. In 2025, he went 12-8 with a 3.20 ERA in a career-high 157.1 innings. He finished with a 4.7 WAR and struck out a career-high 154. MLB Trade Rumors predicted a five-year, $115 million contract for Suarez.
The Toronto Blue Jays have made a statement this offseason. They are going all-in after losing Game 7 of the World Series in November. The New York Yankees are slowly making moves, and the Boston Red Sox are still waiting to strike big. Baltimore is not too far off with the moves they have made so far. Adding Suarez would put them in the conversation of the division’s best going into 2026.
