The Boston Red Sox are still hoping to re-sign Alex Bregman.

The Boston Red Sox have been hoping to re-sign star free agent third baseman Alex Bregman since the beginning of the offseason.

After swooping in late in free agency last offseason, the Red Sox knew it would be more difficult to retain him this time around. Bregman’s market has been robust and there are still quite a few teams involved trying to sign him.

Boston is still one of those teams. As the rumors continue to swirl, Red Sox manager Alex Cora took a brief moment to speak out about the veteran star.

“I love the player,” Cora said. “We love the player. Let’s see what happens.”

Boston Red Sox Received Great Production from Alex Bregman in 2025

After seeing the impact that Bregman made on the team last year, it was obvious that one of Boston’s priorities would be to re-sign him in free agency.

Bregman ended up playing in 114 games. He hit 18 home runs to go along with 62 RBI, while also producing a slash line of .273/.360/.462. Those numbers would be difficult to replace.

Looking past his production on the field, Bregman is a top-tier leader in the clubhouse. He’s the ultimate teammate, which makes him an even more popular free agency target.

At 31 years old, Bregman still has plenty of good baseball left to be played. Whoever signs him will be bringing in a player who can be a cornerstone piece of the lineup. The Red Sox already know that first hand, which is why re-signing him is important.

Where Does the Alex Bregman Market Currently Stand?

All offseason long, new rumors and updates have been coming out about Bregman. As things currently stand, there are a handful of teams with serious interest in signing him.

Outside of Boston, the teams to watch are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and Toronto Blue Jays. Other teams could still get involved, but those have been the main contenders to sign him.

Recently, the market has likely been trimmed a bit. The Diamondbacks have made the decision to keep Ketel Marte. That could pull them out of the running for Bregman, although they do still seem to have some level of interest.

As for the Blue Jays, Kyle Tucker has become a much bigger name in rumors connected to them. Bo Bichette seems likely to leave Toronto though, which could lead to the Blue Jays circling back around to Bregman.

MLB.com has shared that the Cubs and Red Sox appear to be the “biggest players” for Bregman. Just like last offseason, the two historic franchises may be the final teams battling for his services.

Only time will tell where Bregman will play the next chapter of his career. He enjoyed his season in Boston, which gives the Red Sox a better shot at re-signing him. However, the allure of joining a team like Chicago could be too much for him to pass on.

Expect to continue hearing rumors and speculation about Bregman. There is no timetable for his decision, but for the time being teams will continue trying to convince him that they are his best option.
