On Friday night, the Boston Red Sox will host the Athletics for the first game of their series at Fenway Park.

They are coming off a series where they swept the Chicago White Sox (also at home).

Most recently, the Red Sox won Thursday’s game by a score of 12-11.

ESPN’s Buster Olney wrote: “The game of the year, without a doubt, and one of the greatest regular-season games ever. The Chicago White Sox held a lead within every inning from the third inning through the 12th on Thursday night — 10 straight innings of leads. And lost in the 13th. What a win for the Red Sox.”

Ahead of Friday’s series, the Red Sox announced roster news.

The Red Sox wrote (via X): “The #RedSox today selected LHP Raymond Burgos to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 79. To make room, Boston optioned RHP Greg Weissert after last night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.”

Weissert is currently 3-2 with a 3.97 ERA in 48 games.

Weissert is in the middle of his fifth season in the MLB (and third with the Red Sox).

Before Boston, the 31-year-old had spent the first two years of his career with the New York Yankees.
