Red Sox Linked to 49-Home Run Star Amid Alex Bregman Pursuit

The Red Sox are being linked to Eugenio Suarez.

The Boston Red Sox are a team on a mission right now. After taking a step in the right direction during the 2025 season, they will be looking to build off that in 2026.

With the Red Sox looking to get better, they have already made a handful of notable moves this winter. Among their top newcomers are Willson Contreras, Sonny Gray, and Johan Oviedo. While the Red Sox have certainly been aggressive, it is clear that they are not done making moves yet.

The Red Sox have been connected to multiple remaining free agents as the offseason carries on. Bo Bichette is one star free agent who the Red Sox have been linked to. The Red Sox have also been working hard to bring Alex Bregman back to Boston. This is entirely understandable, as Bregman proved to be an incredible fit on their roster this past season.

Yet, the Red Sox successfully bringing back Bregman is not a guarantee. The 31-year-old infielder is one of the best free agents left, so he has naturally been generating plenty of interest. Among the teams who have been connected to Bregman this offseason are the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Arizona Diamondbacks. Thus, the Red Sox have a ton of competition for his services.

As a result of this, another notable free agent is now being viewed as a possible target for the Red Sox if they do not successfully sign Bregman this winter.

Red Sox Viewed as Potential Suitor for Star Free Agent Eugenio Suarez

In a recent article for CBS Sports, R.J. Anderson predicted where each of the top free agents will sign this offseason. Eugenio Suarez was among the free agents whom Anderson discussed.

While Anderson predicted that Suarez would end up re-signing with the Seattle Mariners, he also mentioned the Red Sox as a potential landing spot for the power hitter if they do not end up re-signing Bregman.

“The path of least resistance points to a reunion with the Mariners. Perhaps the Red Sox (if they miss out on Bregman) or the Cubs (if they whiff on a higher-priced pitching pursuit) could factor into the equation too,” Anderson wrote.

If the Red Sox are unable to re-sign Bregman, it would certainly make sense for them to turn their attention to Suarez. If Boston signed Suarez, he would give them an impactful power-hitting infielder who could fit perfectly in the middle of their lineup.

Suarez is also coming off a big 2025 season. In 159 games split between the Diamondbacks and Mariners, he had 49 home runs and 118 RBIs. With numbers like these, he would certainly give the Red Sox’s offense a major boost if signed.

Suarez Should Generate Plenty of Interest

Once players like Bregman and Bichette are off the board, there should be a ton of interest in Suarez. Teams are always on the hunt for more power, and Suarez provides plenty of that when he is playing at his best. He certainly showed that during this past season with his 49 home runs,

A few teams besides the Red Sox that could be worth keeping an eye on in the Suarez sweepstakes include the Mariners, Cubs, Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and San Diego Padres.
