On Saturday, the Boston Red Sox lost to the Reds (in Cincinnati) by a score of 6-5.
They are now 1-1 on the new season, and will look to win the series on Sunday.
Red Sox Player Is Still A Free Agent
Despite the Red Sox already being two games into the season, Lucas Giolito is still a free agent.
He is coming off a year where he went 10-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 26 games for Boston.
Jon Heyman of New York Post Sports wrote (on February 14): “Lucas Giolito, the top free agent starter left, has had a normal offseason program and trained at Cressey Sports. After Giolito raised his arm angle 7 starts into last year, from 49 to 53, he had a 2.51 ERA over the final 18 starts with a .620 OPS allowed and 24.4% whiff rate.”
Giolito’s MLB Career
Giolito was the 16th pick in the 2012 MLB Draft.
He has played nine years for the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Guardians, Washington Nationals (and Red Sox).
During the 2019 season, Giolito was an MLB All-Star (with the White Sox) when he went 14-9 with a 3.41 ERA.
Courtney Finnicum of Baseball Isn’t Boring wrote (on March 23): “Lucas Giolito signing with the Braves has to happen right? He was pretty solid with the Red Sox last year (10-4 3.41 ERA) seems hard to believe he’s been unsigned for this long.”
Giolito has gone 71-66 with a 4.30 ERA in 206 career games.
The 31-year-old could be a good addition to another club before the end of the 2026 season.
Heyman wrote (on March 23): “Braves absolutely need to sign Lucas Giolito now. Spencer Strider is the latest loss, hitting the IL with an oblique. Other recent hits: (Schwellenbach, Waldrep, Wentz, Profar). And since they are owned by a public company, we know they make a huge profit.”
Looking At The Red Sox
Following the Reds, the Red Sox will visit the Houston Astors on Monday night in Texas.
They are coming off a year where they lost in the AL Wild Card.
