On Saturday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox will take on the Athletics in the second game of a three-game series.

Most recently, the Red Sox won the series opener 13-1 on Friday.

All-Star Willson Contreras did not appear during Friday’s win.

Prior to the second game of the series, the Boston Red Sox announced their starting lineup.

Underdog MLB posted on X: “Red Sox 8/8 J. Jones DH C. Rafaela CF W. Abreu RF W. Contreras 1B C. Durbin 3B A. Monasterio SS E. White LF N. Sogard 2B C. Wong C J. Bennett SP”

After missing the previous two games, Contreras is back in the team’s lineup. Willson Contreras departed the team’s game on Aug. 5 as he was dealing with a fever, and the team opted to remove him from the game.

Fortunately, it appears the All-Star is feeling better as he is once again in the team’s lineup.

Contreras should provide a boost to the Red Sox lineup. The first baseman is having a strong season as he’s batting .288 with 104 hits, 18 doubles, 23 home runs, two triples, 57 runs, 70 RBIs and three stolen bases in 105 games.

Despite missing Contreras, the Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to 9 games. They have gone 9-1 over their last 10 games and are now five games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.

Left-hander Jake Bennett is set to make his 13th start of the season. He enters Saturday’s game with a 7-4 record and a 2.90 ERA in 71.1 innings.

Athletics Right Now

Meanwhile, the Athletics fell to 45-71 after dropping the series opener. They have gone 1-9 over their last 10 games and are now tied for the worst record in the American League.

Left-handed pitcher Gage Jump is expected to make his 14th start of the season. Jump enters Saturday’s game with a 4-7 record and a 4.59 ERA.
