Despite Pedroia being out of the league for so long, he is still getting paid by the Red Sox.
According to Spotrac, the former Arizona State star will be paid $2.5 million through the 2028 season.
Mike Mayer of Metsmerized Online wrote (on July 1, 2025): “When the Red Sox gave Dustin Pedroia an extension in 2013, they agreed to $18 million in deferred payments, including $2 million every year in 2021-2024, and $2.5 million every year in 2025-2028.”

Pedroia was picked in the second round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
He spent all 14 seasons of his career with the Red Sox.
During the 2008 season, Pedroia was the American League MVP with 17 home runs, 83 RBI’s, 118 runs and 20 stolen bases (while batting .326).
ESPN Insights wrote (in 2021): “He was the 1st player in MLB history to win Rookie of the Year, a Gold Glove, league MVP and World Series title all before turning 26.”
Pedroia made four MLB All-Star Games, won four Gold Gloves and was with the Red Sox for three World Series Championships (2007, 2013 and 2018).
Over 1,512 games, he batted .299 with 140 home runs, 725 RBI’s, 922 runs and 138 stolen bases.
