The Chicago Cubs will certainly be an interesting team to watch during the 2026 season. The National League Central club took a big step in the right direction in 2025, as they finished the season with a 92-70 record. This was good enough for them to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
The Cubs then followed that up by defeating the San Diego Padres in the MLB Wild Card round. However, the Cubs would then fall to the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS, losing the series 3-2.
Now, the Cubs will be looking to continue to improve in 2026. They have made a handful of additions so far this offseason, as they have brought in players like Phil Maton, Tyler Austin, Hoby Milner, and Jacob Webb. However, they have yet to make that big move that they are in need of.
The Cubs have been linked to several notable free agents this winter, though. Among them is star infielder Bo Bichette, and it makes sense with the Cubs needing another impactful hitter in their lineup.
Now, a new Bichette prediction has come up that should make Cubs fans feel hopeful about the possibility of them landing him this offseason.
Cubs Predicted to Sign Bo Bichette in Free Agency
In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Will Laws and Nick Selbe ranked the top 15 free agents still on the market and predicted where they each will sign. Bichette was given the No. 2 spot on their list, which is understandable when noting that he is easily one of the best players still unsigned.
Laws and Selbe then predicted that the Cubs would be the lucky team that ends up signing Bichette this offseason.
“Recent rumors have linked Bichette to a wide array of contenders, including the Cubs, Phillies and Yankees, who would presumably trade their incumbent second basemen if they can convince Bichette to sign,” Laws and Selbe wrote.
With the Cubs desperately needing another star in their lineup, it makes sense that they are being viewed as a prime potential landing spot for Bichette. If the Cubs successfully signed him, he would immediately give their roster a significant boost as they look to be top contenders in 2026.
If the Cubs landed Bichette, he would give them another star infielder to work with who also works well at the plate. During this past season with the Toronto Blue Jays, he had 18 home runs, 94 RBIs, and a .311 batting average. The two-time All-Star has also hit at least 20 home runs in three different seasons.
Cubs Aren’t the Only Team Linked to Bichette
With Bichette being one of the best free agents left, he is naturally generating a ton of interest around the league. The Blue Jays would love to bring him back, as he has been a big part of their roster for several seasons. Other teams like the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies have also been linked to the star.
With this, there is no question that the Cubs have a ton of competition in the Bichette sweepstakes. It will be intriguing to see if they end up being the team that signs him from here.
