On the eve of Chicago Cubs’ center-fielder’s 24th birthday, Pete Crow-Armstrong’s birthday wish came true. The Cubs and Crow-Armstrong are in agreement on a six-year, $115 million contract extension via ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
“The deal begins in 2027 and does not include a club option,” Passan wrote. “Allowing Crow-Armstrong to hit free agency before his age 31-season.”

Terms of the deal were initially reported Tuesday evening, but was pending medical review before details could be finalized. USA Today MLB columnist, Bob Nightingale had predicted that the contract would be over $100 million, making Crow-Armstrong the second highest paid Cub behind Alex Bregman.
Crow-Armstrong earned only $771,000 in 2025 after a stellar season that led the Cubs to a playoff berth for the first time since 2020.

The city of Chicago has become a new home for the Southern California Native, Pete Crow-Armstrong. He quickly became a fan-favorite after his hot start to 2025.
Pete Crow-Armstrong had a first-half .265/.302/.544 split with 25 home runs and 27 stolen bases. This performance secured him a starting spot in center field for the National League All-Star team.
To round out the season, Crow-Armstrong became the first Chicago Cub to join the exclusive 30-30-30 club. He had 31 home runs, 35 stolen bases, and 37 doubles.
His 2025 performance captivated Cubs fans across the city of Chicago, and earned himself a long-time stay at Wrigley Field.
“Look, young, very talented players, you want them to be in your franchise for a long time,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said on Tuesday morning via MLB.com. “I think that’s every franchise’s goal.”
The Cubs had initially engaged in a contract extension last spring, but Crow-Armstrong rejected the proposal to focus on the season ahead.
However, his sights were always set on Chicago. Crow-Armstrong met with with Chicago Magazine writer Wayne Drehs to discuss his love for Chicago.
“I love Chicago more and more,” Crow-Armstrong told Drehs. “It’s just an incredible city. The people are great. They give a s—. They aren’t just baseball fans who go to the game like Dodgers fans to take pictures and whatever. They are paying attention. They care.”

In January 2026, the Cubs signed third baseman Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million deal with a full no-trade clause. The team also picked up right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller, left-handed pitcher Caleb Thielbar, and veteran outfielder Michael Conforto.
The Cubs’ willingness to spend money on their players has risen their playoff stock, making them a huge threat in the National League Central.
