Former Chicago Cubs All-Star Is Still An MLB Free Agent

On Saturday afternoon, the Chicago Cubs will play their second game of the season when they host the Washington Nationals.

They are coming off a 10-4 loss to the Nationals on Opening Day.

As of Saturday, Marcus Stroman (who was once an All-Star with the Cubs) is still a free agent who is available to sign with any team in the MLB.

He is coming off a season where he appeared in nine games for the New York Yankees.

SleeperMLB wrote (on August 1, 2025): “The New York Yankees have released right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman, per the team

The former Met, Cub and Blue Jay has a 6.23 ERA this season and a 4.69 mark with the team since joining the Yankees prior to the 2024 season”

Stroman’s MLB Career

Stroman was the 22nd pick in the 2012 MLB Draft.

He spent the first five and a half seasons of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays (and made the All-Star Game in 2019).

ESPN Insights wrote (in 2017): “Marcus Stroman wins his 1st career Gold Glove Award.

He Joins R.A. Dickey as only Blue Jays pitchers to win a Gold Glove Award.”

Stroman then spent one and a half seasons with the New York Mets before two with the Cubs.

During the 2023 season, he went 10-9 with a 3.95 ERA in 27 games for Chicago.

At 35, Stroman could still be a good addition for another club.

As for the current Cubs, they are coming off a strong season where they went 92-70.

They lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2025 NLDS.
