Ahead of their series with the Royals, the Tigers signed Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor league deal.
He has pitched in two games for the New York Mets this season.
Jason Beck of MLB.com wrote: “Tigers have signed RH reliever Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor-league deal. He has joined Triple-A Toledo. The 34-year-old has a 3.51 ERA, 7 saves and 10.6 K/9 in 302 MLB appearances across 9 teams.”
Edwards Jr. was picked in the 48th round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
He spent the first four and a half seasons of his career with the Chicago Cubs, helping them win the 2016 World Series.
Following the Cubs, Edwards Jr. had stints with the San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves (and Mets) over 12 seasons.
