Detroit Tigers Announce Gleyber Torres News Ahead Of Royals Series

On Friday night, the Detroit Tigers are playing the first game of their series with the Royals in Kansas City.

The Tigers are coming off a 4-0 loss to the Boston Red Sox (at home).

They have dealt with an abundance of injuries to start the 2026 season.

One of their players who is dealing with an injury is Gleyber Torres.

He last played in a game on May 2.

Tigers PR (on May 6): “The Tigers today placed INF Gleyber Torres on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 4) with a left oblique strain. INF Jace Jung has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.”

Ahead of their series with the Royals, the Tigers announced the latest news on Torres (h/t Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic).

The Tigers wrote: “(left oblique strain) is completing catch, defensive drills, & rehab daily.”

Before the injury, Torres had been batting .259 with 30 hits, two home runs, 11 RBI’s and 18 runs in his first 32 games.

He is coming off his first season with the Tigers (where he made the All-Star Game).

Rogelio Castillo of Tigers ML Report wrote (on July 2, 2025): “Gleyber Torres is the first Tigers second baseman to make to the all star game since 2014 (Kinsler) and the third one to start, joining Placido Polanco (2007) and Lou Whitaker in 1984 and 86.”

Before the Tigers, Torres had spent the first seven years of his career with the New York Yankees.

He made the All-Star game in his first two MLB seasons (2018 and 2019).

The Tigers are currently the second-place team in the American League Central with an 18-20 record in 38 games.

They are 12-6 in 18 games at home (but just 6-14 in 20 games on the road).

After three games with the Royals, the Tigers will visit the New York Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field.
