Ahead of Saturday’s game, the Dodgers announced that they had claimed a player off waivers from the Cubs.

The Dodgers wrote (via X): “The Dodgers claimed LHP Charlie Barnes from the Chicago Cubs. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred IF/OF Tommy Edman to the 60-day injured list.”

Barnes has spent part of two seasons in the MLB with the Minnesota Twins (and Cubs).

He had pitched in one game for the Cubs this season (before getting designated for assignment).

Over 10 career MLB games, the 30-year-old has gone 0-3 with a 6.15 ERA.

Here’s what people were saying on social media:

Bill Shaikin: “Roster flexibility: The Dodgers now control 29 pitchers, either on their 40-man roster or the 60-day injured list.”

@DodgersNation: “BREAKING: The Dodgers have transferred Tommy Edman to the 60-day IL 🚨 They have claimed LHP Charlie Barnes from the Chicago Cubs in his place. Barnes, 30, was designated for assignment on May 6 after appearing in one game for the Cubs.”

Adrian Medina: “Not surprising, but the Dodgers move Tommy Edman to the 60-day IL. Every time updates had been requested on Edman, Dave Roberts would give more or less the same answer on his condition.”

@DodgersTailgate: “The Dodgers claimed LHP Charlie Barnes from the Cubs. To make room on the 40-man roster, Tommy Edman was moved to the 60-day IL. Barnes, 30, was the Twins 4th-round pick in 2017. He’s appeared in 10 MLB games in his career and 94 games in the KBO. He has two option years remaining.”

Dodgers Right Now

The Dodgers come into Saturday as the first-place team in the National League West with a 24-14 record in 38 games.

They are 5-5 over their last ten games (but 13-6 in 19 games at Dodger Stadium).

Following two more games against the Braves, the Dodgers will remain at home to host the San Francisco Giants on Monday.
