Thomas Edman: Everything you need to know

Edman is expected to start at third base Wednesday against the Rays, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Edman was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday after missing the entirety of the season to this point while recovering from offseason surgery on his right ankle. Although he isn't in the starting lineup Tuesday, the 31-year-old stated that he will make his 2026 starting lineup debut at the hot corner in Wednesday's series finale. With Shohei Ohtani expected to the draw the start on the mound in the series finale, it's possible that Ohtani will be absent from the lineup, pushing Max Muncy to designated hitter while Edman takes over at third base.

The Dodgers activated Edman (ankle) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. Edman is officially ready to go for the Dodgers on Tuesday as he has not seen the field since Nov. 1, which was Game 7 of the 2025 World Series. The 31-year-old had surgery on his ankle not long after with hopes of being ready for spring training, but that would turn into June. The Dodgers designated Santiago Espinal in a corresponding move Tuesday. While Edman is back on the active roster, he is not in the lineup Tuesday. Alex Freeland has the start at second and is batting eighth, but he will likely lose playing time as Edman gets eased back in.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Edman (ankle) will start 3-to-4 days per week initially after being activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Edman is finally ready for his season debut following a long rehab from offseason right ankle surgery. While most of Edman's playing time is likely to come at second base, he will see reps at third base and in left field, as well. The 31-year-old super utility player slashed .275/.351/.392 with one home run, one stolen base and a 6:16 BB:K over 14 rehab games with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
