Dodgers Announce Shohei Ohtani Decision Before Opening Day

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Angels by a score of 13-5 in their most recent spring training game.

They only have two more exhibition games before their Opening Day battle with the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 26.

Dodgers Announce Shohei Ohtani Pitching Decision

On Sunday, the Dodgers also announced the current plan for Shohei Ohtani’s pitching schedule.

Katie Woo of The Athletic wrote: “Shohei Ohtani will start Tuesday’s final exhibition game against LAA, Dave Roberts said. That will line him up to start the fifth regular season game of the year (March 31 vs. CLE).”

Ohtani is coming off a season where he pitched in 14 games with a 1-1 record (and 2.87 ERA).

Woo also added: “Dodgers set their Opening Day rotation, per Dave Roberts: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki, Emmet Sheehan, Shohei Ohtani. Justin Wrobleski will be available as a piggyback first time through, but Dodgers do expect him to take some starts as well.”

Ohtani And The Dodgers

In addition to his excellent pitching, Ohtani is coming off another elite season at the plate.

He batted .282 with 55 home runs, 102 RBI’s, 146 runs and 20 stolen bases.

SleeperDodgers wrote (on March 3): “Shohei Ohtani in two years since signing with the Dodgers: 109 HR 232 RBI 1.025 OPS 2.87 ERA 1st 50/50 season in MLB history 2x All-Star 2x NL MVP 2025 NLCS MVP 2x World Series Champion Greatest free-agent signing ever.”

Ohtani helped lead the Dodgers to a 93-69 record, which won them the National League West in 2025.

They then beat the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays to win their second straight World Series Championship.

Ohtani had spent the first six years of his career playing for the Angels.
