The Dodgers lost by a score of 3-2.

They will look to avoid getting swept on Sunday afternoon.

Two-Time World Series Champion Is Still A Free Agent

With the season well underway, it’s worth noting that a former Dodgers player is still a free agent.

Austin Barnes remains available to sign with any team in the MLB on May 3.

He is coming off a season where he appeared in 13 games for the Dodgers.

Over the offseason, Barnes was with the New York Mets.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote (on March 25): “The Mets released veteran catcher Austin Barnes, who had been in camp on a minor league deal. That leaves Hayden Senger and Kevin Parada as the organization’s top Minor League catching options.”

Barnes’ MLB Career

Barnes was picked in the ninth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

He has spent all 11 seasons of his MLB career with the Dodgers.

In that span, the Dodgers made the World Series four times (and won two titles).

Just Baseball wrote (on May 14, 2025): “The Dodgers are set to DFA longtime catcher Austin Barnes upon the arrival of Dalton Rushing. He has been with LA since 2015.”

Barnes has appeared in 612 career games.

He is batting .223 with 338 hits, 35 home runs, 162 RBI’s, 206 runs and 23 stolen bases.

While Barnes is 36, he is a reliable veteran with a lot of experience.

It will be interesting to see if another team picks him up before the end of the 2026 season.

Jon Heyman of The New York Post wrote (on January 29): “Austin Barnes minors deal with Mets pays $1.5M plus $500K incentives if in majors. MLB camp invite.”

The Dodgers are the first-place team in the National League West with a 20-13 record in 33 games.

They are 8-7 in the 15 games they have played on the road.

Following one more game against the Cardinals, the Dodgers will start their next series on Monday night when they visit the Houston Astros in Texas.
