The Los Angeles Dodgers have quickly established themselves as one of the top teams in the majors once again this season, as their 24-14 record is good for first place in the National League West division currently. As has been the case for a couple of years now, it feels like the only thing that can truly stop the Dodgers is injuries.

Even with all the talent it has at its disposal, Los Angeles is dealing with its fair share of injury woes early in the new season. On Friday night, the team was dealt another tough blow to its starting rotation, as star pitcher Tyler Glasnow was placed on the injured list with a new back injury.

Throughout his career, Glasnow has always been known to have lights-out stuff, but his issue has been staying on the mound. Injuries have plagued Glasnow throughout his career, as he’s never made it through a full season unscathed. The most starts he’s ever made in a single season came in 2024 when he took the mound 22 times, and unsurprisingly, that was the only year in which he earned an All-Star selection.

Even with his aforementioned injury issues, Glasnow has helped the Dodgers win back-to-back World Series championships in 2024 and 2025. He’s gotten off to a great start in 2026, too, as he’s posted a 3-0 record through his first seven starts to go along with a 2.72 ERA and 49 strikeouts.

Glasnow left his most recent starts against the Houston Astros after just one inning, though, which obviously was a concerning development for the Dodgers. Reports indicated that Glasnow has been dealing with low back spasms, and with the ailment persisting, L.A. opted to place him on the injured list for the time being.

“The Dodgers recalled RHP Paul Gervase and placed RHP Tyler Glasnow on the injured list with low back spasms,” the team announced in a post on its official X account.

In Glasnow’s place, the Dodgers have recalled Paul Gervase, who has yet to pitch in the majors this season. He will primarily be used in the bullpen, though, as Los Angeles still has five starters it can roll with for the being, and with Blake Snell set to make his season debut on Saturday, you can make a case that the team’s starting rotation is actually getting better.

This injury shouldn’t keep Glasnow out for very long, and once he returns, manager Dave Roberts will have to make some tough decisions on his starting rotation. Roki Sasaki has struggled early on as a starter this season, so he could move to the bullpen, and Emmet Sheehan also has a 4.79 ERA through his first seven starts. There’s no such thing as too much depth, though, so Roberts will gladly make some tough decisions if he has to once Glasnow finds his way back on the field.
