Milwaukee Brewers Announce Roster Decision After Recent SF Giants Trade

On Friday evening, the Milwaukee Brewers will open up a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates (at home).

The Brewers are coming off a 5-4 loss to the Tigers (in Detroit).

Luis Matos finished the game with one hit and one run in three at-bats.

Before Friday’s game, the Brewers announced the news that they had designated Matos for assignment (h/t MLB Trade Rumors).

Adam McCalvy of MLB.com wrote: “Brewers moves: 1B/OF Tyler Black and LHP Shane Drohan recalled from Triple-A Nashville RHP Carlos Rodriguez optioned to Triple-A Nashville OF Luis Matos designated for assignment”

Matos appeared in nine games for the Brewers.

He batted .200 with four hits and one run.

The 24-year-old was traded (via the San Francisco Giants) less than one month ago.

The Giants wrote (via X) on March 30: “OF Luis Matos traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations.”

Matos spent the first three years of his career with the Giants.

In 2023, he appeared in a career-high 76 games, batting .250 with two home runs, 14 RBI’s, 24 runs and three stolen bases.

The Brewers are currently 13-11 in 24 games, which has them at the bottom of the National League Central.

They are 7-5 in the 12 games they have played at home.

Following their series with the Pirates, the Brewers will remain at home to host the Arizona Diamondbacks.
