The New York Mets have been extremely over the past week, getting a deal done with star free agent infielder Bo Bichette and backing that up with a trade for Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr.

While those two moves were great additions for the Mets, the team saved their best move for last.

On Wednesday evening, New York pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for ace pitcher Freddy Peralta. After being viewed as a potential suitor for weeks, the Mets were finally able to get a deal done.

In exchange for Peralta, New York had to give up great talent. Both Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams are headed back to the Brewers in the deal. Along with Peralta, the Mets are also getting right-handed pitcher Tobias Myers from Milwaukee.

Following the blockbuster move to bring in a much-needed ace, New York received a strong message from a team insider.

Steve Gelbs of SNY spoke out with his thoughts on the trade for Peralta. He believes that the move makes the Mets a clear-cut World Series contender.

“They are a true World Series contender with a true ace in Freddy Peralta,” he said.

He is 100 percent right about his take. New York was missing a clear-cut No. 1 pitcher in the rotation. Now, with Peralta onboard, the Mets have that guy and their roster is complete.

During the 2025 MLB season with the Brewers, Peralta put on a show. He made 33 starts, compiling a 17-6 record to go along with a 2.70 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, a 3.1 K/BB ratio, and 176.2 innings pitched.

Those numbers being added to the team will make New York a serious threat in the National League. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Dodgers also improved in a big way by signing superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker. Getting past the Dodgers will be a tough task for the Mets.

Taking a Closer Look at Both Bo Bichette and Luis Robert Jr.

While all the news on Wednesday night has to do with the Peralta trade, both Bichette and Robert are going to be key pieces for the 2026 MLB season as well.

Bichette is coming off of a 2025 campaign with the Toronto Blue Jays that saw him play in 139 games. He hit 18 home runs to go along with 94 RBI, while also producing a slash line of .311/.357/.483. In the World Series, he was a key part of pushing Los Angeles to Game 7.

Robert only played in 110 games for the White Sox last season. He hit 14 home runs, drove in 53 RBI, and slashed .223/.297/.364. There is no denying his talent and potential, but he’ll need to figure out how to put it all together in New York.

Both players are quality additions. The Mets have swung big this offseason and they’ve connected three times. Fans have a lot to be excited about moving forward.

Hopefully, the new additions will lead to World Series contention. With Peralta now on the roster, the ceiling has risen even higher for New York.
