The New York Mets have crawled out of the gate so far in the 2026 campaign. After posting a 7-4 record to start the season, the Mets have rattled off 11 straight losses, with no end in sight. The Mets are struggling to score runs with Juan Soto on the injured list, and their new-look pitching staff has not been able to keep their ice-cold offense in games.

Simply put, there are a lot of problems on the surface for New York. However, there may be some issues bubbling underneath the surface between Soto and All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor. And if Mets insider Tim Britton’s latest comments on the situation are anything to go by, it sounds like the relationship between these two superstars could be causing more problems for the team.

Is There Beef Between Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor?

The Mets underwent quite a bit of change over the offseason, but two of their constants were Soto and Lindor, their two best hitters. After a slow start to the year, Soto put together another typically great season (.263 BA, 43 HR, 105 RBI, 38 SB, .921 OPS), while Lindor earned his first All-Star selection during his time with New York (.267 BA, 31 HR, 86 RBI, 31 SB, .811 OPS).

Ever since Soto arrived in New York last year, though, there have been questions about his relationship with Lindor. Both guys have very different personalities, and it was expected to take some time until they became comfortable with each other. The fact that rumors continue to swirl around these guys and their relationship, though, isn’t exactly a good sign.

With Soto on the injured list, the spotlight is shining quite brightly on Lindor’s struggles, and questions continue to linger regarding his relationship with Soto, even though he’s not on the field currently. Britton understands why these questions keep popping up, but unless New York starts winning games, he doesn’t see them disappearing anytime soon.

“It’s taken a little while for those personalities to mesh,” Britton said on “Foul Territory.” “Until they start (winning), you’re gonna hear daily questions about the relationship between Soto and Lindor, what’s going on in Lindor’s head … It’s just going to be a cloud of that until they actually win a baseball game.”

It’s pretty obvious that, right now, the Mets are broken, and it remains to be seen what the fix could be. Getting Soto back on the field would obviously help, but even when he’s on the field, there appears to be some sort of drama brewing between him and Lindor. That has put New York in a very tough spot, especially as its losing skid drags on.

Britton is right in saying that winning will solve many of the Mets’ issues, but to this point, they haven’t been able to get out of their own way. Neither Soto nor Lindor will be going anywhere anytime soon, but New York is likely hoping these guys can work out whatever sort of rift has formed between them. In the meantime, the Mets will enjoy a day off on Monday before opening a new three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.
