The Giants are being predicted to sign Ranger Suarez.

The New York Mets are entering the 2026 season with the goal of bouncing back. The 2025 season was certainly a disappointing one for the Mets, as they finished the year with an 83-79 record and failed to make the playoffs. This was after they made the biggest move of last offseason when they signed superstar slugger Juan Soto.

However, the Mets now must move on from their nightmare 2025 season and prove their critics wrong in 2025. The Mets have already made a handful of additions to their roster this offseason, as they brought in players like Marcus Semien, Jorge Polanco, Luke Weaver, and Devin Williams. However, they should not be done yet, as they are continuing to be linked to several remaining free agents.

One free agent pitcher who the Mets have been connected to throughout this offseason is Ranger Suarez. It is easy to understand, as they undoubtedly could use another impactful pitcher in their rotation. If they signed Suarez, he would certainly give them that, as he has been a solid pitcher throughout his career.

Now, the Mets have gotten a promising update on the possibility of them being the team that ends up landing Suarez.

Mets Predicted to Sign All-Star Pitcher Ranger Suarez in Free Agency

In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Will Laws and Nick Selbe ranked the best 15 free agents still available and then predicted where they each would sign. Suarez picked up the No. 6 spot on their list, which makes sense when noting that he is one of the top pitchers still unsigned.

Laws and Selbe then predicted that the Mets would end up being the team that signs Suarez this offseason.

ESPN’s Buster Olney recently reported that it seems ‘inevitable’ the Mets will end up adding either Valdez or Suárez to their rotation, so we’ll project the Mets to swipe the latter from their division rivals,” Laws and Selbe wrote about Suarez.

With the Mets needing another star pitcher in their rotation, it would make a ton of sense for them to sign Suarez. He would immediately upgrade their pitching staff and would work very nicely in the middle of their rotation if signed.

Suarez is coming off a strong season with the Philadelphia Phillies, as he had a 12-8 record, a 3.20 ERA, and a career-high 151 strikeouts. This was after he was an All-Star in 2024 with the Phillies, so there is no question that he would be a nice pickup for a team looking to bounce back like the Mets.

Mets Have A Lot of  Competition for Suarez

With Suarez being one of the best pitchers still on the market, there are multiple teams that he has been connected to this offseason. Besides the Mets, teams like the Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants, and Chicago Cubs have all been linked to him this offseason. Thus, there is no question that the Mets have plenty of competition for his services.

It will be very interesting to see if the Mets can end up successfully signing Suarez from here. The fit looks great on paper, but time will tell if they ultimately land him.
