The New York Mets have been the most disappointing team to start the 2026 MLB season.
On Saturday, they lost to the Chicago Cubs (at Wrigley Field) by a score of 4-2.
With the loss, the Mets are now in the middle of a ten-game losing streak.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote: “The New York Mets’ Horror Show continues. They lose their 10th in a row, 4-2, to the Chicago Cubs. It’s now their longest losing streak since 2004. They have been outscored 60-18 in this streak. They have the worst record in baseball, 7-14.”
Struggling Mets Player Owed Over $120 Million
Bo Bichette finished the loss with one hit and one run in four at-bats.
He has been one of the key players on the Mets who has struggled this year.
Right now, Bichette is batting .227 with one home run, nine RBI’s, eight runs and 22 strikeouts in 21 games.
It’s worth noting that the Mets signed him to a huge contract over the offseason.
Spotrac wrote (on January 16): “Bo Bichette’s 3-year, $126M contract with the #Mets includes no deferred compensation, a full no trade clause, and player options in 2027 & 2028.”
Bichette will flip to 3B for the Mets, who now carry a projected tax payroll of $358M.

Bichette’s MLB Career
Bichette was picked in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
He spent the first seven years of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The two-time All-Star is coming off a season where he helped them reach the World Series.
Over 769 career games, Bichette is batting .292 with 112 home runs, 446 RBI’s and 446 runs.
Based on what he’s being paid, the Mets will need Bichette to return to All-Star form soon.
He is just 28, so he is in the prime of his career.

The Mets are the last-place team in the National League East with a 7-14 record in 21 games.
They are 4-8 in the 12 games they have played on the road.
On Sunday, the Mets will look to avoid getting swept by the Cubs (and to snap their ten-game losing skid).
