On Saturday, the New York Yankees clinched a series victory when they beat the Atlanta Braves by a score of 5-4.
They had been coming off a 3-2 win on Friday night.
The Yankees will look to go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon.
Former Yankees Player Released
During their series with the Braves, news came out that a former Yankees shortstop had elected free agency from the Kansas City Royals.
MLB.com wrote (on August 7): “SS Andrew Velazquez elected free agency.”
Velazquez had been designated for assignment earlier this week.
He went unclaimed on waivers.
MLB.com wrote (on August 3): “Kansas City Royals designated SS Andrew Velazquez for assignment.”
Velazquez appeared in six games for the Royals.
It was his first MLB action since the 2023 season.
Velazquez was picked in the 7th round of the 2012 MLB Draft.
He has spent part of seven seasons at the MLB level with the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Cleveland Guardians (and Royals).
The 32-year-old appeared in 28 games for the Yankees (in 2021).
Now that Velazquez can pick his next team, it will be interesting to see where he lands.

The Yankees are the second-place team in the American League East with a 66-51 record in 117 games.
They have gone 5-5 over their last ten games (and are 29-25 in 54 games at home).
Following Sunday’s game, the Yankees will get the day off on Monday (before a series with the Seattle Mariners that starts on Tuesday in the Bronx).
