On Sunday afternoon, the New York Yankees are playing the Kansas City Royals (at home) to close out their three-game series.

Also during the day, the Somerset Patriots played the Fightin Phils in New Jersey (losing 7-6).

Anthony Volpe finished with two hits in four at-bats.

Volpe is coming off a season where he batted .212 with 19 home runs, 72 RBI’s, 65 runs and 18 stolen bases in 153 games.

He has been with the Yankees for all three years of his MLB career.

In 2023, the 24-year-old won a Gold Glove Award.

Erik Boland of Newsday Sports wrote (on April 10): “GM Brian Cashman, in St. Petersburg for this weekend’s series, on if Anthony Volpe will be the starting shortstop when he comes off the IL: “That’s always been the plan.””

Yankees Right Now

The Yankees have had an up-and-down start to the 2026 MLB season.

They are 12-9 in 21 games, which has them at the top of the American League East.

Following their series with the Royals, the Yankees will get an off day on Monday.

They will then head to Boston for a series with the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
