Former Yankees Fan-Favorite Announces Retirement
Ahead of Monday’s game, former Yankees player Gio Urshela announced his retirement from baseball (via Instagram).
The 34-year-old most recently played in the MLB when he appeared in 59 games for the Athletics last season.

Urshela’s MLB Career
Urshela started out his career with the Cleveland Guardians and Toronto Blue Jays.
He then broke out into a fan-favorite for the Yankees when he batted .314 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI’s during the 2019 season.
After three seasons in New York, Urshela had stops with the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers (and Athletics).
Over 851 career games, Urshela batted .270 with 759 hits, 73 home runs, 352 RBI’s, 312 runs and seven stolen bases.

The Yankees come into their series with the Blue Jays as the second-place team in the American League East with a 28-19 record in 47 games.
They are 3-7 over their last ten games (and 14-6 in 20 games at home in the Bronx).
Last season, the Yankees lost to the Blue Jays in the ALDS.
