The New York Yankees have continued to establish themselves as the top team in the American League early in the 2026 campaign, as their 20-11 record is tops on their side of the bracket. It’s still very early in the season, though, so the Yanks are going to have to do their best to keep up the pace, especially with the Tampa Bay Rays breathing down their neck in the AL East division.
While New York is set to get both Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon back in action soon, the team’s lineup has taken some hits as of late. The most recent injury issue the Yankees have dealt with involves Jasson Dominguez, who was only called up to the majors earlier this week. Dominguez is dealing with a left elbow injury, and it sounds like he may have to miss time with this ailment.
Yankees Receive Jasson Dominguez Injury Update
Dominguez has become one of the more polarizing players in New York over the past few years. A highly touted prospect, Dominguez initially got his first taste of the majors back in 2023 at just 20 years old, but he didn’t truly establish himself with the team until 2025, when he took the field for 123 games.
The problem is that Dominguez’s play left a lot to be desired last season. His numbers weren’t necessarily bad (.257 BA, 10 HR, 47 RBI, 23 SB, .719 OPS), but he didn’t manage to reach the heights he was expected to hit. It was telling that Dominguez didn’t manage to make the team’s Opening Day roster, as he began the year in the minors at Triple-A.
Earlier this week, Dominguez got called back up to the majors, but he has just one hit through his first nine at-bats. He was forced out of the team’s 3-0 loss to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday after getting hit in the elbow by a pitch, and after initial X-rays were “inconclusive,” the team has found itself waiting for the results of a CT scan before making a decision on his status.
“While the rest of his teammates got the day off after a nine-game, three-city road trip, Jasson Domínguez spent Thursday getting a CT scan on his left elbow,” Greg Joyce of The New York Post reported. “As the Yankees awaited the results for a more definitive diagnosis after Domínguez was hit by a pitch in Wednesday’s loss to the Rangers and X-rays were ‘inconclusive,’ they were forced to consider how they might fill the void if the young DH/outfielder has to miss time.”

New York already found itself without a major source of production in its lineup once Giancarlo Stanton hit the injured list with a calf injury earlier this week, so losing his replacement, Dominguez, just days after promoting him would be a big blow. The team could potentially activate shortstop Anthony Volpe from the injured list, but his status is also up in the air for the time being.
With a new series against the Baltimore Orioles set to get underway on Friday, the Yankees would like to have some clarity on Dominguez’s injury situation so that they can properly tweak their roster. First pitch for the Yanks’ upcoming game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET, and you can bet fans will be keeping an eye out for a new update on Dominguez before the team takes the field.
