Trade idea has Yankees dealing Jasson Dominguez to Braves.

The New York Yankees could look to trade Jasson Dominguez ahead of the start of the 2026 MLB season.

Dominguez doesn’t have a clear path to playing time with the Yankees, so New York could look to trade the former top prospect. MLB analyst Zachary Rotman of FanSided shared a trade idea that sees the Yankees dealing Dominguez to the Atlanta Braves in an intriguing move.

Yankees acquire:

Braves acquire:

  • Jasson Dominguez

The proposed deal does make sense, as Atlanta gets Dominguez to replace Jurickson Profar, who’s suspended for the entire season. In return, the Yankees get a pair of pitchers, with one pitcher helping the team right away.

Lee is a 31-year-old left-handed reliever who went 2-4 with a 3.29 ERA in 68.1 innings, including two saves. He could be another high-leverage reliever for Aaron Boone and give the Yankees manager a solid lefty late in the game.

Fuentes, meanwhile, is a 20-year-old pitcher who’s the team’s third-ranked prospect. The right-hander reached the majors last season but struggled as he went 0-3 with a 13.85 ERA in 4 starts. Fuentes would likely start the year in Triple-A and give New York some rotation depth and another young arm in the system.

In return, the Yankees would give up Dominguez, who would get a chance to start for the Braves and be an everyday player. Dominguez hit .257 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs last season with the Yankees, and the 23-year-old can be a star hitter for the team in the outfield for years to come.

Analyst Explains Yankees-Braves Swap

The proposed deal does seem like a win-win for both teams.

New York gets an impact reliever and a young starting pitching prospect, while the Braves fill a major need after Profar’s suspension.

“Dominguez has no spot on this Yankees team without an injury,” Rotman wrote. “Rather than wait for an injury to arise, why not just trade him now before his value tanks further? This deal might not give them a star in return, but the Yankees would get two useful pieces. …

“This deal sees the Yankees turn a player who doesn’t have a role on the team without injuries and who has several question marks into a consistently reliable reliever under cheap club control and a starting pitching prospect to dream on. It’s not a haul, but it’d help the Yankees win now, which should be their goal.”

New York would be able to get two assets for Dominguez, who doesn’t have a clear role on this team, especially after Randal Grichuk signed to be the fourth outfielder.

GM Believes Dominguez Should be Playing Every Day

Dominguez has yet to break through and be an everyday player, which Yankees general manager Brian Cashman believes should happen.

“I would concede it’s in his best interest to be getting everyday reps,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “We’ll just have to wait and see how the spring shakes out, who’s standing, and then we’ll make the appropriate decisions when we have our meetings close to the end of camp. …

“There’s flexibility in the roster with a lot of players that we can do a lot of different things with. Whether they’re going north with us or going to Triple A.”

Dominguez appeared in 123 games last season with the Yankees.
