On Tuesday night, the New York Yankees beat the Orioles (in Baltimore) by a score of 6-2.

They snapped a four-game losing streak (and will look to win the series on Wednesday afternoon).

Also on Tuesday, the team called up Anthony Volpe (he did not play in the game).

The Yankees wrote (via X): “Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: • Placed INF/OF José Caballero on the 10-day injured list with a right middle finger fracture. • Recalled INF Anthony Volpe (#11) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.”

Before Tuesday’s win, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was asked about Volpe (and spoke highly of his teammate).

Chisholm Jr. (via YES Network): “To see him strive and he went through high school to come to New York at a super young age… That’s why I feel like he’s built for this. To go through it, the last three years as a New York Yankees shortstop, to go through it as a hurt guy playing shortstop in New York, and struggling and still pushing through it no matter what. That takes a pretty tough person… I think that he can do it and push through a lot more than a lot of people think.”

Volpe was the 30th pick in the 2019 MLB Draft.

He got off to a great start to his career, winning a Gold Glove as a rookie in 2023 (and helping the Yankees reach the World Series in 2024).

Last season (his third year), Volpe batted .212 with 114 hits, 19 home runs, 72 RBI’s, 65 runs and 18 stolen bases in 153 games.

The Yankees are the second-place team in their division with a 27-16 record in 43 games.

After Wednesday’s finale they will get the day off on Thursday before starting a series with the New York Mets on Friday night at Citi Field.
