The New York Yankees secured a series victory over the Toronto Blue Jays this past weekend with an 8-3 win on Sunday afternoon.

Finally seeing a spark at the plate was star infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., who recorded two hits, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

It’s been a challenging year for Chisholm Jr. at the plate, and during his postgame interview, he spoke openly about his struggles.

Chisholm Jr. Makes Honest Statement

Chisholm Jr. revealed that he doesn’t really know why things haven’t gone his way at the plate this season. He noted that he’s hitting the ball hard, but too often, those balls have gone directly to defenders.

“Honestly, I don’t know,” Chisholm Jr. said. “A lot of the balls that I’ve hit, I’ve hit at the guy that’s been playing that position for 120 years, so I mean that’s just baseball. I think in Toronto [last week] I had like four lineouts. That’s baseball. Not lucky this year, I guess.”

Chisholm Jr. Just Wants to Help Yankees Win

During his postgame interview, Chisholm Jr. also made it clear that he’s focused on doing whatever he can to help the Yankees win after finding a bit of a groove over the last two games.

“I’m just trying to go out there to work to help my teammates win,” he said. “Just trying to barrel up the ball, just not strike out. Put the barrel on the ball and just keep going.”

Yankees Right Now

New York has the day off on Monday after improving to 74-56, which gives them the second-best record in the American League entering Tuesday’s series against the Houston Astros in the Bronx.

After facing Houston, the Yankees will also host the Boston Red Sox for a pivotal weekend series at Yankee Stadium.
