During their series with the Cardinals, the Yankees sent Anthony Volpe to Triple-A.
The Yankees wrote (via X) on August 3: “Following tonight’s game, the Yankees optioned RHP Angel Chivilli, OF Jasson Domínguez and INF Anthony Volpe to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.”
George Lombard Jr. also became the team’s starting shortstop after getting called up for his MLB debut.
On Thursday morning, former Yankees player Cameron Maybin sent out a post.
Maybin wrote: “Can we finally turn the Anthony Volpe page? The kid grew up dreaming of being a Yankee, got to wear the pinstripes, and by every account gave that organization everything he had. That deserves respect. Be excited about George Lombard Jr. I am too. But why does that have to come with taking shots at Volpe? That’s weird. It’s always the people who’ve never competed on a stage anywhere close to that level who are the loudest tearing him down. Turn the page. Appreciate what Volpe gave, root for what’s next, and stop pouring salt in the wound. Respect costs nothing.”

Volpe had been in the middle of his 4th season at the MLB level.
He is batting .240 with 41 hits, one home run, 19 RBIs, 20 runs and seven stolen bases in 56 games.
