Earlier this week, the Yankees placed Max Fried on the injured list.

MLB.com wrote (on August 21): “Scheduled to throw side session Aug. 22, setting up a live batting practice for the following week. Manager Aaron Boone said Aug. 21 that Fried returning in the minimum 15 days is “in play.””

Ahead of Friday’s game, Yankees legend Paul O’Neill was asked for his thoughts on Fried (via YES Network).

Meredith Marakovits: “The Yankees are hoping that Max Fried gets the ball again soon. He’s going to throw a side session tomorrow. Paul, another guy that is on the mend, but for Fried, it seems like they do not believe that it’s going to be that long of an IL stint and that’s good news for that Yankee staff.”

O’Neill: “I think it was great news. If he was shelved for a couple weeks not picking up a baseball, then you would be concerned because the end of the season is near and for him to be throwing in the next few days, he’s a veteran guy that a couple starts if he misses, so what? You still trust him in a big game.”

Fried is in the middle of his second season with New York.

He had spent the first eight years of his career on the Atlanta Braves.

Right now, the 2021 World Series Champion is 4-4 with a 2.81 ERA in 15 starts.

Yankees Right Now

The Yankees are the second-place team in the American League East with a 73-55 record in 128 games.

They have gone 7-3 over their last ten games (and are 41-28 in 69 games at home in the Bronx).
