Anthony Volpe Gets Brutally Honest Message

Following the game, Evan Roberts of WFAN Sports Radio made a brutally honest statement about Volpe.
Roberts: “Anthony Volpe. I know he’s 25, I know he’s from New Jersey, I know he was once a top prospect. He’s not a top prospect anymore… You need to view people for who they are. Anthony Volpe right now is a Quadruple-A player who’s filling in for the injured starting shortstop of the New York Yankees… Anthony Volpe can still become a really good player. But we have to stop viewing him as a prospect. We have to stop viewing him as the starting shortstop… Anthony Volpe is just a guy filling in at shortstop until Jose Caballero is ready to come back.”
Volpe is coming off a year where he batted .212 with 114 hits, 19 home runs, 72 RBI’s, 65 runs and 18 stolen bases in 153 games.
He is in his fourth season playing for the Yankees.
In 2023, Volpe won a Gold Glove (as a rookie).
Social Media Reacts To Comments From Roberts

Here’s what people were saying on social media:
@SteveMeltzer1: “Sure would like to see a full year at AA or AAA before I accept he’s an “AAAA” player presently.”
@ArizonaSunset2: “Not a big fan, but not ready to write him off – yet. He’s hit 19 & 21 home runs off major league pitching in different years. Including a big WS HR. And won a (ok, questionable but still) Gold Glove. That’s better than AAAA. I just don’t think the NYY have developed him correctly”
@SheliManning18: “💯. Evan hasn’t dropped heat in a while”
@richcarce: “He’s not even a Quad A player. He’s at best a Triple A player”
@victoraren57: “he’s a mlb level player. he’s just not very good. he’s a back up on a good team and a possible starter for some teams. right now though he’s a mess”
