Also on Friday, Anthony Volpe played in his first Triple-A game (since getting optioned).

The 2023 Gold Glove winner finished with one home run and three strikeouts.

Here’s what people were saying:

@cai_rogers7: “Despite the homer on the night, Anthony Volpe does commit a throwing error… Not his fault too much, but it does make you think when you watch George Lombard Jr. field so smoothly in his first couple of games”

Talkin’ Yanks: “Anthony Volpe homers in his first game back in the minors His only MLB home run was on May 26th”

New York Post Sports: “Anthony Volpe committed a throwing error tonight in his first game after the demotion.”

@nameandjersey: “we gotta stop reporting when volpe does something good or bad. let the man play bro”

@YankeeSource: “Anthony Volpe crushes a 2-run home run.”

Joseph Esposito: “I think playing Volpe at shortstop in Triple A is pointless. With Lombard Jr up, Volpe should be getting maximum reps at 2B because I really do believe he would be a good defender and a perfect platoon partner with Jazz this year.”

@nocontexttrades: “Surprised nobody in the organization had tried to get him to learn a new position. If he can hit, then can’t he be a serviceable outfielder?”

@williamnyy23: “Why isn’t he playing 2B? If Volpe is going to have any value going forward, it won’t be at SS.”

Volpe has spent part of four seasons at the MLB level (all with the Yankees).

He was picked in the 1st round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Yankees Right Now

The Yankees are the second-place team in the American League East with a 65-51 record in 116 games.

They are currently 4.5 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for first.
