The New York Yankees made the decision back on Aug. 4 to demote infielder Anthony Volpe to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
He’s remained in the minors over the last few weeks, and on Thursday night, in a lineup that featured Cody Bellinger, who made his first rehab appearance, Volpe blasted a two-run home run to right field. It marked his third home run for Scranton since the Yankees optioned him.
For reference, Volpe hit just one home run across 56 games and 171 at-bats in the majors this season.

Yankees Fans React on Social Media
The New York fanbase reacted to Volpe hitting another homer in the minors as he’s beginning to find a bit of a rhythm at the plate.
“Incapable of doing any of this against MLB pitching,” a fan said.
Someone else added, “An AAA player…. Simply not good enough for the MLB.”
Another person wrote, “It’s actually insane how little he pulls the ball now. That’s how he became a top prospect in the first place.”
“He needs to stick to this approach,” a fan shared.
One more commented, “Volpe has done pretty well since his demotion, and this being oppo is impressive. Jasson, by contrast, has struggled.”
Bellinger Praises Volpe
Bellinger spoke to the media after his first rehab game with the Triple-A club. While he was asked a lot about his recovery, he was also asked about Volpe’s home run, and he had some praise for the scrutinized infielder.
“Yeah, great swing. He had a great swing in his first at-bat as well, and it was just pitchers pitch, but you know, I think the swing is in a pretty good spot and he’s obviously working really hard, and so it’s always nice to see results.”
