Yankees Mentioned in Possible Mike Trout Trade Speculation

Mike Trout is somebody that could benefit from a change of scenery. A trade certainly is not off the table.

The New York Yankees are off to a hot start in 2026. At 25-11, they have the best record in the American League and lead the AL East by 1 1/2 games. However, they could potentially use an offensive upgrade. Some more power in the lineup would not hurt as they look to win the AL East for the second time in three years and potentially get back to the World Series.

Earlier this week, Keith Law of The Athletic proposed the idea of the Los Angeles Angels potentially trading Mike Trout. The Angels could get a lot for him if they do trade him.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed some top trade fits for the three-time American League MVP, and among those fits were the Bronx Bombers.

“In the here and now, a trade is the only way Trout and Judge are going to combine their six total MVPs. And beyond being a fun idea, you could even say that it’s less a bonus and more a necessity for the Bronx Bombers,” Rymer wrote.

Trent Grisham has fallen back to earth after his out-of-nowhere star turn in 2025. The lineup feels a lot thinner as a result, with only Judge, Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice standing out on any given day.”

Mike Trout Named Possible Fit for Yankees

The Yankees could use some help in the middle of their lineup, especially with Grisham coming back down to earth a little bit. The Yankees don’t exactly have a lot of top prospects, and that is what it would take to land Trout, so that might be a drawback of a potential deal.

Still, Trout is somebody that would make the Yankees instant favorites to win the pennant. The lineup needs more power, and with Grisham struggling, the Yankees don’t exactly have that beyond Judge.

But if they want to make a deep October run, it might be worth it to part with a top prospect or two in order to get a deal done. The Angels will ask for a lot in return, but the Yankees have rarely been afraid to go big in the past, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that they could make a play for Trout.

What it Means for Angels

Sadly, Trout has only appeared in the postseason once. That was in 2014, and the Angels were swept in the AL Division Series. The last time the Angels even had a winning season was in 2015.

The Angels might have to eat a good chunk of money in order to get a deal done, but they can bring back some top prospects. Ultimately, it might be good for the game for Trout to move on to a new team so that he can showcase his abilities in the postseason. The Angels just don’t give him that opportunity right now, so it would probably be best for him to be playing somewhere with winning expectations.

Playing in New York would also allow him to play closer to his hometown.
