The New York Yankees are on fire to start the season. With an AL-best 24-11 record, the Yankees have firm World Series aspirations. In order to advance to the Fall Classic, New York will need a complete team, and can’t afford to have any holes in the lineup.

Despite some recent production, third baseman Ryan McMahon has been underwhelming since the Yankees traded for him, and he could be better used as a bench piece instead of an everyday starter. A name that has been floating around trade conversations is Houston Astros‘ third baseman, Isaac Paredes. The Astros have been atrocious to start this season, and are on a clear path to be sellers come June and July? If the price is right, should the Yankees trade for Isaac Paredes to replace Ryan McMahon?

Yankees Trade Idea Lands Isaac Paredes

In a recent piece by FanSided.com writer Zachary Rotman, Isaac Paredes is named as one of five Astros who ‘will be gone by the MLB trade deadline’:

“Trading Paredes for an outfielder or, preferably, pitching, feels like the ideal path forward for Houston to not only address their infield logjam, but to get a boost in other areas of need.”

In this trade idea, the Yankees could propose a package that surrounds Spencer Jones or Jasson Dominguez as a haul that could be strong enough to land Paredes. Jones has been mashing in Triple-A, but continues to struggle with strikeouts, and Jasson Dominguez is seeing a brief stint in MLB right now, but one of those two names could be a centerpiece of a deal. The Astros need pitching, as Rotman outlines, so pitching prospects could be in play as well.

They likely wouldn’t do it right this second, but now is a perfect time to trade for Isaac Paredes. He’s starting to hit better as of late, and has a batting average of .265 with three home runs, 15 RBI, and an OPS+ of 112. Paredes also carries very strong ‘162-game AVG’ statistics: 26 doubles, 25 home runs, OPS+ of 115.

As for Ryan McMahon, in 87 games since joining the Yankees, his OPS+ is 91 with six home runs. And Yankee Stadium should help McMahon hit some more home runs.

Would the Yankees Trade for Isaac Paredes?

This is a trade that the Yankees could look into as the season progresses. Due to McMahon’s contract status, New York may want to give him some more runway in the lineup.

There also might be a surplus of infielders on the Astros roster, so one of them figures to become expendable at some point, especially with Houston’s putrid record.

Again, the Yankees could offer a package that centers around Spencer Jones or Jasson Dominguez, which would certainly entice Houston. Paredes is also under contract for the 2027 season, which plays a factor in how much capital New York would have to give up.

So, would the Yankees trade for Isaac Paredes before the MLB trade deadline?
