Phillies Given Wake-Up Call in Superstar Free Agent Race

The Philadelphia Phillies need to think about making a big-time free agency move.

Once again, the Philadelphia Phillies came up short in the MLB postseason last year. It has become a painful trend for the franchise and fans have been hoping to see the team get aggressive this offseason because of it.

So far, the Phillies have been able to re-sign Kyle Schwarber and have added quality pieces like reliever Brad Keller and others. However, they have not been a big splash yet.

Kyle Tucker has been a name linked occasionally to Philadelphia, but the Phillies have not been a high-level contender to sign him. One MLB analyst believes that needs to change.

Mike Petriello of MLB.com has named Philadelphia as the No. 1 team in baseball that needs Tucker the most.

“Yes, we get it: They’d like to give prospect Justin Crawford a shot in center, and they took a rebound bet on a one-year deal for Adolis García, who hasn’t been productive since 2023. We also heard Dave Dombrowski say the outfield is “pretty well set” after signing García,” Petriello wrote.

“That doesn’t mean things can’t change, though. For all the talk of shaking things up in Philadelphia, all that’s really happened is adding García and bringing back Kyle Schwarber (understandably, obviously). They still need to sort out catcher, whether that’s returning J.T. Realmuto or looking elsewhere. There’s just no way for them to improve things quite as much as they could by adding Tucker – as unlikely as it may seem.”

Kyle Tucker Would Be a Perfect Fit for the Philadelphia Phillies

Being able to afford Tucker would be the main problem for the Phillies. From a pure baseball perspective, he would be exactly what the team needs.

During the 2025 MLB season with the Chicago Cubs, Tucker played in 136 games. He hit 22 home runs to go along with 73 RBI and a slash line of .266/.377/.464.

Those are not the numbers fans have become used to seeing from Tucker. He dealt with some injuries throughout the year, which contributed to a down season.

Tucker’s market has not developed quite like he expected this offseason. Teams do not appear to be willing to give him the monster contract he was wanting. That could lead to a team like Philadelphia having a chance to jump in late.

Adding Tucker would immediately make the Phillies a top-tier World Series favorite.

Which Teams Are Involved in Kyle Tucker’s Market?

Toronto Blue Jays

GettyBlue Jays pursuit of Kyle Tucker got an interesting turn.

At this point in time, there are still a handful of teams who are interested in signing Tucker.

Among the teams who could still end up signing Tucker are the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, and Chicago Cubs. There are other teams around baseball who could decide to pursue him as well.

Should Tucker’s price tag drop, the market would heat up quickly.

Philadelphia fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for the team to sign Tucker. Despite that fact, he’s exactly the kind of piece that Dave Dombrowski should target to go all-in on World Series contention.

Until Tucker officially signs somewhere else, the Phillies are going to continue being mentioned as a potential destination.
