Dodgers get update in pursuit of Kyle Tucker.

Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker are two of MLB’s biggest free agents this offseason. They both happen to be strongly on the Toronto Blue Jays‘ radar. That makes sense for Bo Bichette, who has spent his entire MLB career with Toronto, but if the Blue Jays land Kyle Tucker on the biggest deal this offseason, it will be alarming news across the league.

On Tuesday, a new update emerged in the saga of where these two free agents will land in 2026. A Blue Jays insider reports that the Blue Jays are making a more aggressive pursuit of Kyle Tucker instead of Bo Bichette.

What is the Latest on Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker Chase?

The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon recently provided some reporting and insight into what the Blue Jays front office might be in terms of priority in signing either Tucker or Bichette.

The fact that it’s nearing the middle of January, and neither superstar feels close to signing, means that there will be large fireworks ahead of the seven-week lead-up to the 2026 season.

Here is the update that Bannon provided about Toronto’s chances in landing one 0f MLB’s biggest free agents:

“The Toronto Blue Jays remain linked to All-Star hitters Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker. Although league sources said the Jays have increased their efforts to recruit Tucker, who remains a roster fit after the signing of Japanese slugger Kazuma Okamoto, a reunion with Bichette appears increasingly unlikely.”

This report is on the heels of Kazuma Okamoto’s introductory press conference, and Blue Jays’ GM Ross Atkins indicated that the Jays feel good with their 2026 payroll even after a $300+ million spending spree.

Will the Blue Jays Retain Bo Bichette?

If the MLB team from up north is really going to break the bank for Kyle Tucker, what does that mean for Bichette’s sweepstakes?

It’s unlikely that Toronto can retain both stars, and Bannon also reports that it would be very hard for Toronto to find the reps for several infielders on their currently constructed roster:

“While some in the Blue Jays organization remain advocates for signing the 27-year-old Bichette, the club’s infield as currently constructed appears crowded. It would be seemingly impossible to find regular reps for all of Bichette, Okamoto, Andrés Giménez and Ernie Clement.”

The Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette sweepstakes remain MLB’s biggest offseason storyline. It’s great that both stars are being linked to the Blue Jays, but other MLB big spenders like the Mets, Dodgers, Yankees, and Orioles.
