The latest on the Blue Jays pursuit of Bo Bichette & Kyle Tucker

The Toronto Blue Jays have been busy little bees lately. Outside of signing Kazuma Okamoto and the expected addition of a $1.8 million catcher on January 15th, they have been linked to a few big-name MLB free agents. Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker, and Alex Bregman have been the most commonly linked names to the powerhouse club.

While Bichette has been offered one unique opportunity if he returns to Toronto, another shot at winning the World Series has to be high on his to-do list for 2026. If he did, he would be joining Ernie Clement, Daulton Varsho, and Tyler Heineman. All three of whom avoided arbitration and extended with the Blue Jays.

However, the Blue Jays will need to exercise some patience in this regard. They could make a trade to increase the likelihood of a Bichette reunion. However, a few new reports have revealed some surprising details about Bichette and the Philadelphia Phillies (as well as an update on Tucker).

When Will Bo Bichette Meet With the Philadelphia Phillies?

There are two reports circulating about the prospect of Bichette joining the Phillies. Jon Heyman was the most recent one, specifically citing when the Phillies are scheduled to meet with Bichette.

Following up on his report that the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Blue Jays, and Phillies have interest in the infielder, he said the following.

“Phillies and star infielder Bo Bichette have a meeting scheduled for Monday,” Heyman wrote on January 8th, 2026, in an X post. “Feels like there’s strong mutual interest.”

This report came on the heels of an initial report from Matt Gelb of The Athletic.

“As the Phillies reach a possible inflection point in their offseason,” Gelb wrote on January 8, 2026. “They have scheduled a meeting with free-agent infielder Bo Bichette and done extensive work on the various roster ripple effects of signing him, multiple league sources told The Athletic. Bichette is expected to meet with Phillies officials on a video conference call in the coming days, those sources said.”

“The club’s interest in Bichette is legitimate, and if it results in a deal, it would likely require the team to move on from roster mainstays J.T. Realmuto and Alec Bohm.”

Gelb then explains what has changed with the Phillies, igniting intense interest in Bichette.

“But as a standoff with Realmuto has lingered, the Phillies began debating different paths,” Gelb wrote. “Bichette’s market has not collapsed; the combination of money allocated for Realmuto being unspent and Bichette’s willingness to move off shortstop has opened the door.”

“The possibility of Bichette, though, has the Phillies considering everything.”

Blue Jays Still Linked to Kyle Tucker

Tucker is still linked to the Blue Jays. However, a new update reveals that the Blue Jays have two other teams competing for the outfielder.

Heyman said on a Bleacher Nation live stream that, “I’m not worried about Tucker, not that he needs my concern, but I do feel like it’s if it’s not the Jays, it does feel like the Dodgers and Mets are the most likely candidates to potentially sign him.”

The most recent update prior to that was that his potential deal would likely not exceed the $400 million he wanted.

“Tucker may not get the $400M some predicted,” Heyman wrote in the New York Post on January 8th, 2026. “But he should still fly past $300M, execs predict — unless he prefers a shorter deal with higher (average annual value) and opt-outs.”

This comes after the most recent Tucker-related rumor that went viral. Tucker and George Springer were spotted taking in the TGL match in Florida on Tuesday, January 6th.

Some fans were speculating that Springer was on a “recruiting mission.” Either way, it’s not that far-fetched to see these two enjoying an event together, considering they are former teammates.

One way or another, it appears that at least one of these sagas could end in the near future. If the Bichette train is moving quickly, the other big free agents could follow suit.

Unfortunately for Blue Jays fans, it looks like Bichette might be heading elsewhere. However, this isn’t the first time that Bichette has been scheduled to meet with a team. And the last time this happened, he didn’t immediately sign with that team.

As is the motto when it’s the offseason, “anything can happen.”
