Toronto Blue Jays Promote Exciting 22-Year-Old After Yankees Series

Toronto Blue Jays have promoted one exciting player following their series against the New York Yankees.

The Toronto Blue Jays‘ series win streak has ended with the New York Yankees. Between their series against the Tampa Bay Rays and the Yankees, the Blue Jays will return to Toronto with a 3-3 record from this AL road trip. This follows news about Brandon Barriera.

The Blue Jays are heading into a series against the Kansas City Royals, who just swept the Detroit Tigers. The Blue Jays will thank them for keeping the Tigers a little further away in the AL Wild Card race. However, the Blue Jays need to bounce back quickly to keep the good times rolling.

On the same day they played their final game against the Yankees, the Blue Jays announced a transaction involving Barriera.

According to the MiLB Transactions log, the Blue Jays promoted Barriera: “LHP Brandon Barriera assigned to Vancouver Canadians from Dunedin Blue Jays.”

Barriera is a 22-year-old pitcher for the Blue Jays organization. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound southpaw was a first-round draft pick for Toronto in 2022.

Barriera is an exciting pitching prospect within the Blue Jays system.

In 2025, Barriera was the 15th best prospect in the Blue Jays system. The scouting report at the time said very exciting things about the young hurler.

“Barriera had development staffers buzzing in early ‘24, but he suffered an elbow injury early in the season that required a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace procedure. After losing a crucial year of development, Barriera is scheduled to return to game action in May or June,” the report states.

“Prior to that injury, Barriera’s stuff was all the way back. He was hitting 97 mph in spring games a year ago, paired with a slider that projects as a legitimate out pitch at the next level.”

The final results from this three-game series included a 3-1 loss on Friday, a 4-3 win on Saturday, and an 8-3 loss on Sunday.

Sunday’s loss saw the Blue Jays utilize five different pitchers. Jose Soriano started, followed by Braydon Fisher, Mason Fluharty, Brendon Little, and Simeon Woods Richardson.

While losing the series is less than ideal, the Blue Jays are still in the AL playoff mix.

The Blue Jays are 1.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians and Texas Rangers, who are currently tied for the final AL playoff spot.
