Toronto Blue Jays announced Jameson Taillon news before the final game of their series against the New York Yankees.

The Toronto Blue Jays are flying high off the back of another quality start from Dylan Cease against the New York Yankees. Additionally, the Blue Jays have news regarding Jameson Taillon.

Cease earned his eighth win after striking out eight while only surrendering two hits in 6.2 innings of work. Spencer Miles, Tyler Rogers, and Louis Varland came in after him and slammed the door shut.

Before the Blue Jays took on the Yankees, Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling offered an update on Taillon.

“Jameson Taillon (forearm) felt good throwing a bullpen at Tropicana Field on Thursday and will throw another either Sunday in New York or Monday in Toronto,” Zwelling wrote on Saturday, August 22nd.

The 34-year-old joined the Blue Jays via trade earlier in August.

Looking at Jameson Taillon’s Season

Taillon hasn’t had the best season by any stretch.

The veteran hurler has spent some time on the IL, which has obviously disrupted his rhythm. At the end of July, the Chicago Cubs DFA’d him.

Less than a week later, the Cubs traded him to the Blue Jays.

On August 11th, Taillon was placed on the 15-day IL due to right forearm tendinitis. If this timeline is closely followed, the Blue Jays could see him return soon. In fact, the most recent news does not suggest that this couldn’t happen.

The veteran MLB hurler has started 17 games this season. During those starts, he has recorded 75 strikeouts, a 1.37 WHIP, and a 5.68 ERA in 84 innings.

Toronto Blue Jays & the AL Wild Card Race

The Blue Jays are currently 0.5 games back of the final American League Wild Card Spot. The Texas Rangers and Cleveland Guardians are in a tie for the final AL Wild Card position.

Getting another win on Sunday will go a long way towards the Blue Jays’ playoff chances. In fact, before Sunday’s game, they have a 22 percent chance of making the playoffs and clinching a Wild Card spot.

The final game of their series against the Yankees features a pitching matchup of Jose Soriano and Carlos Rodon. Sunday’s game will be broadcast at 1:35 PM Eastern Time, 11:35 AM Mountain Time.

It’s time to see what the Blue Jays are made of. Securing another series victory will go a long way toward improving their playoff chances.

It should be a photo finish for the final AL Wild Card position.
