Toronto Blue Jays Linked to Another Blockbuster Offseason Scenario

With spring training right around the corner, the Toronto Blue Jays are still one of the most talked about teams in baseball.

After pushing the Los Angeles Dodgers to Game 7 in the World Series last season, the Blue Jays are expected to be a serious contender once again in 2026. They have made some big moves this offseason already and have missed on some as well.

Of course, the big offseason additions are starting pitcher Dylan Cease and Japanese star third baseman Kazuma Okamoto. As for the misses, Toronto tried to sign superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker before he signed with the Dodgers and also lost Bo Bichette to the New York Mets.

With that being said, could the Blue Jays still consider making another splash move? One potential option has been suggested for the team.

Toronto Blue Jays Connected to Yet Another Blockbuster Option

FanSided’s Christopher Kline has suggested a potential blockbuster trade that Toronto could consider pursuing. This move would see the Blue Jays acquire another starting pitcher.

Kline named a trade for Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic as something to watch.

“As such, trading for Bubic would constitute an ambitious statement,” Kline wrote. “Toronto also has the capital to realistically entertain a long-term contract in the offseason, especially if Bubic pitches well and the Jays mount another deep run.”

He also explained why a trade for another starting pitcher, namely Bubic, could be something that Toronto considers.

“It’s not as if the Toronto Blue Jays really need more pitching — Toronto has five starters on hefty contracts and a rookie sensation in Trey Yesavage — but their rotation is comprised entirely of righties at the moment, and depth on the mound is never a bad thing,” he wrote. “The Blue Jays are flush with resources and desperate to compete at the highest level. Missing out on Kyle Tucker was probably a source of motivation.”

Whether or not the Blue Jays have interest in another big move remains to be seen, but Bubic could make a lot of sense if they’re open to another starting pitcher.

What Would Kris Bubic Bring to the Blue Jays?

During the 2025 MLB season with the Royals, the 28-year-old pitcher made 20 starts. He compiled an 8-7 record to go along with a 2.55 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, a 3.0 K/BB ratio, and 116.1 innings pitched.

Adding that kind of production to an already talented group of starters would make Toronto an even more serious contender. Bringing in an elite left-handed option would also be wise for the Blue Jays.

Bubic is a legitimate star. Kansas City might not have any interest in trading him away. However, Toronto would be wise to check in if it wants to add left-handed help.

This is just an idea with no reporting backing it. Bubic has not been reported to be of interest to the Blue Jays. It’s just something to think about for Toronto.
