Former Blue Jays pitcher explains why he left.

After winning their second consecutive World Series championship last year, the Los Angeles Dodgers are continuing to have success during the early stages of the 2026 season. At the time of this writing, the Dodgers are at the top of the National League West standings with a 16-7 record.

However, as strongly as the Dodgers’ start of the season has been, they recently were hit with some bad injury news. This is because Dodgers star closer Edwin Diaz is expected to be out for the next three months due to elbow surgery. With this, Los Angeles’ bullpen will be without one of its most important relievers for a decent chunk of the season.

With Diaz expected to be out for multiple months, it would be understandable if the Dodgers looked to bring in at least one experienced reliever to try to help out their bullpen. Because of this, a notable former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher is being viewed as a potential trade fit for the Dodgers.

Former Blue Jays Reliever Seranthony Dominguez Named Potential Trade Target for Dodgers

In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Patrick McAvoy took a look at three potential trade targets for the Dodgers due to Diaz’s injury. Among the players who McAvoy brought up was former Blue Jays reliever Seranthony Dominguez, who currently plays for the Chicago White Sox.

“Domínguez is an eight-year big league veteran with a 3.55 career ERA in 331 total big league appearances. He currently has a 5.63 ERA in nine appearances for the White Sox. That doesn’t sound great, of course. But he had a 3.16 ERA last year in 67 total appearances out of the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays’ bullpens. If the Dodgers want to take a chance, the White Sox hurler has big upside and Chicago is struggling,” McAvoy wrote.

With the Dodgers needing another reliever, it would make sense for them to target a pitcher like Dominguez. He would give them another solid reliever with a good amount of experience, which would not be a bad thing at all for a Dodgers club that is looking to stay among the top teams in the league.

Dominguez would be more than a rental for the Dodgers, too, as he is in the first season of his two-year, $20 million contract with the White Sox. This undoubtedly adds to his appeal, and this would only be more of the case if he bounced back as the season rolls on. When noting that he had under a 4.00 ERA in five out of his previous seven seasons, he certainly has the potential to turn things back around.

Dodgers Should Be Looking to Add a New Reliever

Whether it’s Dominguez or another pitcher, it is clear that the Dodgers should be looking to improve their bullpen depth with Diaz injured. Being without Diaz is a big hit for the Dodgers, so it would be smart for them to add another high-impact reliever between now and the deadline.

It will be interesting to see if the Dodgers end up making a push for Dominguez. If they landed him, it would certainly be tough for Blue Jays fans to see, as LA, of course, just beat them in the World Series last year.
