The Golden State Warriors might be the team that holds the most interest in trading for Jaylen Brown if the Boston Celtics make him available. Controversial statements from Brown declaring he most enjoyed this season implied he preferred to run an offense without Jayson Tatum. Boston also must keep paying Brown and Tatum “superstar money” to make it logical they may want to trade one for better roster depth.
Tyler Watts named Golden State as a team that can offer Brown what he most desires:
“Brown could be looking to move on and be the superstar on his own team. That would happen in a few years in Golden State. (Stephen) Curry will gladly pass the baton to Brown. It would keep the Warriors in contention for years to come and clarify life after Steph. The Dubs could trade a package centered around Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler.”
The Warriors would offer Brown a middle ground of both the potential to win now by teaming with respected superstar Stephen Curry. However, Curry’s older age sees him wanting to rely on a player like Brown to lead them through the regular season. The retirement of Curry coming relatively soon would also make Brown the next face of the franchise.
How Golden State Could Acquire Jaylen Brown
The report confirms that Boston must accept either Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler to make the money work for a trade with the Warriors. Both men are aging, and Butler is coming off a brutal injury that will force him to miss some of next season.
Either idea would have to include some of Golden State’s younger talents, like Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody, and Gui Santos. The Warriors must include some of their future draft picks to sweeten the pot and tempt the Celtics in a potential trade.
Multiple young players, future draft picks, and the ability to save money long-term would be the most important things for Boston in a Brown trade. Tatum getting a new roster to lead is what must happen if the Celtics risk trading a former NBA Finals MVP and future NBA Hall of Famer.
Boston Will Likely Wait To Trade Jaylen Brown
Despite rumors circulating after Brown’s Twitch comments implied that he’d want his own team, nothing has been reported about Boston wanting to trade him. There are logical reasons mentioned, as some teams believe only having one max contract on the roster is the path towards future success.
The Celtics have been a top East team for the past few years, and they will still have a solid roster next season. Derrick White and Payton Pritchard remain strong guard options, and Boston has started to develop some of their younger prospects too.
One would assume the Celtics want at least one more chase at another title with both Brown and Tatum on the roster. The only thing that could change course would be Brown officially requesting a trade to set up the next chapter of his career. Golden State must hope that Brown wants a change as soon as this summer.
